FXGYM Troubleshooting Guide

Some issues can be resolved by restarting the FXGYM setup. Use this restart sequence when a section below asks you to restart the system:

  1. Power off the FXGYM.
  2. Disconnect the power from the screen and media player.
  3. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power.
  5. Wait until the BrightSign media player has fully started.
  6. Test the touchscreen, content or connected screen again.

Avoid repeatedly unplugging and reconnecting the system without allowing the player enough time to fully restart.


The touchscreen does not respond

Possible causes

  • The touchscreen TV is temporarily frozen.
  • The USB touch cable is loose or disconnected. This is normally a USB-B to USB-C cable.
  • The BrightSign media player has not fully started.
  • The touchscreen input is not being detected.
  • The system needs a full restart.

How to fix it

  1. Check whether the touchscreen TV is powered on.
  2. Check whether the BrightSign media player is powered on.
  3. Check the USB cable between the media player and the touchscreen.
  4. Make sure both ends of the USB cable are firmly connected.
  5. Restart the full FXGYM setup using the recommended restart sequence.
  6. Wait until the system has fully loaded.
  7. Test the touchscreen again.

The FXGYM screen is black

Possible causes

  • The screen is not powered on.
  • The media player is not powered on.
  • The wrong input source is selected on the touchscreen TV.
  • HDMI output from the media player is not detected.

How to fix it

  1. Confirm that the FXGYM is connected to power.
  2. Confirm that the touchscreen TV is powered on.
  3. Confirm that the BrightSign media player is powered on.
  4. Check whether the screen is set to the correct HDMI input.
  5. Check the HDMI connection between the media player and the screen.
  6. Restart the full setup using the recommended restart sequence.
  7. Wait until the player has fully started.

Content is missing or not available on the FXGYM

Possible causes

  • The content is not active
  • The content is not assigned to the correct location or player
  • The player has not downloaded the latest content
  • The wired network connection is unavailable or unstable
  • The player has not refreshed

How to fix it

  1. Check that the FXGYM is connected through wired Ethernet.
  2. Confirm that the network connection is working.
  3. Log in to the Funxtion CMS.
  4. Find the missing workout, timer, class or content item.
  5. Confirm that the content is set to Active.
  6. Save any changes.
  7. Keep the FXGYM powered on and connected to the network so the content can download.
  8. Restart the FXGYM and wait until it has fully loaded.

Content starts, but nothing appears on the external screen

Possible causes

  • The external screen is powered off.
  • The external screen is on the wrong HDMI input.
  • The HDMI cable is loose or defective.
  • The external screen is not connected through the HDMI connection.
  • The HDMI splitter or output connection is not receiving signal.

How to fix it

  1. Confirm that the external screen is powered on.
  2. Confirm that the external screen is set to the correct HDMI input.
  3. Check the HDMI cable between the FXGYM and the external screen.
  4. Confirm that the external screen is connected through the HDMI splitter.
  5. Test with another HDMI cable if available.
  6. Restart the FXGYM and the external screen.
  7. Test the content again.

Video plays but there is no sound

Possible causes

  • The touchscreen TV volume is muted or too low.
  • The content has no audio.
  • The 3.5 mm analog audio output is not connected correctly.
  • The external audio system is not powered on or is using the wrong input.
  • Audio settings on the connected screen or speaker system are incorrect.

How to fix it

  1. Check the volume on the FXGYM screen.
  2. Make sure the screen is not muted.
  3. Test another content item to confirm whether the issue affects all content.
  4. If using external speakers, check the 3.5 mm analog audio connection.
  5. Confirm that the external audio system is powered on.
  6. Confirm that the external audio system is set to the correct input.
  7. Restart the FXGYM and test again.

The FXGYM shows a loading circle on a black background

Possible causes

  • The BrightSign media player cannot connect to the wired network.

  • The Ethernet cable is loose or disconnected.

  • The network port, router or network switch is not working.

  • The media player has not fully started.

How to fix it

  1. Confirm that the BrightSign media player is powered on.

  2. Check that the Ethernet cable is firmly connected to the media player.

  3. Check whether the lights next to the Ethernet port are active or flashing.

  4. Restart the FXGYM using the recommended restart sequence.

  5. Wait until the BrightSign media player has fully started.

To test the network connection:

  1. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the BrightSign media player.

  2. Connect the same cable to a laptop.

  3. Turn off Wi-Fi on the laptop.

  4. Check whether the laptop receives an internet connection.

If the laptop also has no connection, try another Ethernet cable or network port. Check the router or network switch and contact the location’s network provider if necessary.


The FXGYM shows “Please insert storage device for recovery”

Possible causes

  • The BrightSign media player cannot detect its storage card.

  • The storage card is missing or not inserted correctly.

  • The storage card may be defective or corrupted.

How to fix it

  1. Restart the FXGYM using the recommended restart sequence.

  2. Wait until the BrightSign media player has fully started.

  3. Check whether the recovery message disappears.

Do not remove, replace or format the storage card unless instructed by Funxtion Support.


The FXGYM shows “Webpage Not Available”

Possible causes

  • The BrightSign media player cannot connect to the wired network.

  • The Ethernet cable is loose or disconnected.

  • The network connection is unavailable.

  • The FXGYM interface has not loaded correctly.

How to fix it

  1. Check that the Ethernet cable is firmly connected to the BrightSign media player.

  2. Check the network outlet, router or network switch.

  3. Restart the FXGYM using the recommended restart sequence.

  4. Wait until the BrightSign media player has fully started.

  5. Check whether the FXGYM interface loads again.

To test the network connection:

  1. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the BrightSign media player.

  2. Connect the same cable to a laptop.

  3. Turn off Wi-Fi on the laptop.

  4. Check whether the laptop receives an internet connection.

If the laptop also has no connection, try another Ethernet cable or network port. Check the router or network switch and contact the location’s network provider if necessary.


The timer shows 00:00:00 when starting a virtual class

Possible causes

  • The virtual class has not finished downloading to the BrightSign media player.

  • The player was offline or disconnected while the content was downloading.

  • The content download has not completed correctly.

How to fix it

  1. Check that the FXGYM is connected to the wired network.

  2. Keep the FXGYM powered on and connected to the network so the download can complete.

  3. Try starting another workout or virtual class that was previously available.

  4. Try the original virtual class again after the download has completed.

  5. Restart the FXGYM if the timer continues to show 00:00:00.
